Woods are a terrain type that provide 2 (up to 20% less damage taken) to ground units; this is a lesser boost than that of properties, though woods are generally less contested and so can still be very effective at protecting your units. In tradeoff, however, they slow down vehicles significantly.
Woods become critical when Fog of War is active; ground units in woods will be hidden from enemy vision, and thus also safe from attacks, unless spotted by an adjacent enemy unit. This can be used for a variety of tactics including to protect valuable units such as the Md. Tank, or to surprise the enemy.
Sonja does not have any passive daily synergy with woods, but can use her CO Powers to ignore the hiding mechanic and gain vision of all spaces in range. This is important to consider when facing Sonja, though defense boosts from such terrain may still be valuable.
